How to Remove Hyperlinks in Microsoft Excel 365
If you’ve ever had an Excel worksheet with hyperlinks in it you will know how frustrating it can be when you accidently click on a cell containing a hyperlink and a web page, email message or internal database opens when all you really wanted to do was click on the cell!
In this post I want to show you how to remove hyperlinks in a Microsoft Excel 365 worksheet using a variety of methods including shortcuts along with other efficiency tips and techniques.
Whether you’re dealing with a single hyperlink or an entire spreadsheet full of them, I’ve got you covered these methods.
Simple Steps to Remove Hyperlinks in Microsoft Excel 365
Method 1: Removing a Single Hyperlink
If you only need to remove a single hyperlink from a Microsoft Excel 365 worksheet, that’s easy and quick.
- Simply right-click on the cell containing the hyperlink
- Choose “Remove Hyperlink.”
The text will remain but the hyperlink will be removed from the cell.
Method 2: Removing Multiple Hyperlinks
To remove several hyperlinks to at once here is a quick and easy way.
- Select the range of cells that contain hyperlinks to be removed.
- Click the “Home” tab on the ribbon.
- Click “Clear” dropdown menu, if you can’t find it, it is on the right in the Editing grouping.
- Choose “Clear Hyperlinks.”
This will remove all hyperlinks in the selected cells and won’t affect any cell formatting.
Method 3: Turning Off Microsoft Excel 365’s Automatic Hyperlinks
In an effort to try to help, if you type common text formats into Excel such as an email addresses or web site addresses, Excel automatically turns these into hyperlinks. However if you don’t want those entries to automatically turn into hyperlinks try this:
- Click “File” on the Home tab.
- Choose “Options”
- From the Excel Options dialogue box, click the “Proofing” option.
- Choose “AutoCorrect Options.”
- Click the “AutoFormat As You Type” tab and below the Replace as you type heading, uncheck the box that says “Internet and network paths with hyperlinks”
Now there will be no more automatic creation of hyperlinks that look like web addresses or emails in your spreadsheets.
Method 4: Removing Excel 365 Hyperlinks Using Shortcuts
Fancy using shortcuts to do the same thing. These shortcuts will remove ALL hyperlinks in a worksheet:
- Select all cells in the worksheet by pressing Ctrl+A .
- Right-click on the highlighted data.
- Select “Remove Hyperlinks.”
This is great if you have a big spreadsheet and you want to remove ALL hyperlinks.
